P2K Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Program UnderwayThe P2K program "Shaken Baby Syndrome" began this week when two medical professionals, Ayelet Shles and Janice Zausmer, from Meir Kfar Saba Hospital made a visit to Columbus. Shles is a pediatric physician and Zausmer is the head nurse of the new born unit.
The aim of the medical professionals' visit is to expose the Israeli medical staff to treatment options, educational programs, prevention programs to better monitor child abuse cases and to gain a better overall awareness of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Throughout the week they met with people and children affected by shaken-baby syndrome.
Lisa Carroll, a P2K Committee member, believes that this is the way to spread awareness about shaken-baby syndrome in Israel and ultimately save the lives of Israeli Children.
Both Shles and Zaunsmer were taken back by the amazingly warm hospitality they received from the Jewish Community and they were very impressed by the professional programs they had the chance to experience. They are very excited to return home and share the knowledge they have gained from their visit to Columbus and they look forward to the visit of their new friends Judith Groner and Lisa Carroll, who will help implement other aspects of the program.
The end result is that Meir Hospital can serve as a model for the State of Israel and train other maternity hospitals across the country so that the Shaken Baby Syndrome can be reduced and lives can be saved. The Shaken Baby Syndrome Program is made possible through a partnership with the Columbus Jewish Foundation.
